Discord, a popular communication platform for gamers, has recently acquired the popular poll-based social app that lets friends share compliments with one another, Gas.
What Is Gas?
According to Wikipedia, Gas, formerly known as Melt as well as Crush, is an American anonymous social media app. The Gas serves a similar function to tbh in that it is a social media app for high school students. Users of the app take part in polls that are anonymous and ask them to respond to pre-written compliments made to their peers.
In October 2022, Gas surpassed TikTok and BeReal as the most downloaded app on the Apple App Store. Android devices are not currently supported by this application.
Gas is a free app, but you can pay for a subscription to get extra features. The app's name comes from the phrase "gassing your friends up" which means giving someone compliments or support to make them feel better. Discord's Acquisition
Discord made a tweet on January 17, 2023. But in that tweet, they didn't point out what platform they are going to acquire.
Later that day, On Discord's official blog page, They released a blog post titled "Welcoming Gas To Discord". From that blog post, they made it official.
So, in this blog post, they pointed out some important facts.
What Changed?
According to Discord's blog post, both platforms will continue as their own standalone apps. Additionally, the Gas team will join with the Discord team to support their efforts in expanding to new and existing audiences.
Final Thought
As users, I believe we shouldn't be too concerned about this acquisition. The reason for this is that each platform keeps its own independent apps. The only change brought about by this acquisition is the formation of cooperative teams. We don't think that behind-the-scenes procedure has much of an impact on us.
