Discord is a popular communication platform that has recently added a new feature for its iOS users: Secret AMOLED Mode. This feature was designed to enhance the user experience on devices with AMOLED displays.
Meaning Of AMOLED
AMOLED stands for Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode and is a type of display technology used in modern smartphones. The main advantage of AMOLED displays is that they are able to turn off individual pixels, resulting in true black and improved contrast compared to other display technologies.
AMOLED Mode On The Discord Platform
Discord's Secret AMOLED Mode takes advantage of this feature by adjusting the color palette and overall look of the app to better suit the capabilities of AMOLED displays. The darker background and more vibrant colors result in a more visually appealing experience for users with AMOLED displays.
AMOLED Mode On Android
AMOLED Mode was already a thing in Discord's Android versions. To enable Secret AMOLED Mode on Android, go to the app settings > appearance > click on Dark mode 10 times and your secret experimental button to reveal Amoled mode should appear.
AMOLED Mode On IOS
A Discord user named advaith tweeted about this upcoming AMOLED mode to the IOS phones,
Discord's Secret AMOLED Mode has received positive reviews from iOS users with AMOLED displays, who appreciate the improved visual experience. This new feature demonstrates Discord's commitment to providing its users with the best possible experience, regardless of the device they are using.
Time to make it official?
A few months back, Amoled mode was only available for Android as both these two platforms were build on separate code bases. Which isn't the case now meaning that both platforms should get merged updates and nothing is exclusive to one platform.
A test flight update showed that the secret and hidden Amoled mode may be sunset from the app forever. Due to popular request from the community, it got re-added to Android and now even to iOS.
However, Discord is still calling Amoled an "Experimental" feature meaning one of two things.
- Things still aren't official and this feature may be removed without any explanations.
- Things are on their way to get official and finalized and be finally available across all platform. Including Desktop because we need it already.
If you are following our previous articles, you may have seen that Discord is already working on gradient themes for desktop. Here's the article in case you missed it.
It is possible and now easier for them to include Amoled mode on desktop since they're already working on giving the desktop app some colors.
Final Thought!
In conclusion, Discord's Secret AMOLED Mode is a great addition for iOS users with AMOLED displays. The feature enhances the overall look and feel of the app and provides a more visually appealing experience. This new feature is just one of the many reasons why Discord continues to be a popular choice for online communication.
