Discord AutoMod will Soon Detect & Handle Raids Automatically
Discord is overhauling their AutoMod feature with the ability to automatically detect raids as they happen.
Welcome to another day of discord leak week. I made that up. It's crazy how nearly every day we hear about a new feature being leaked. Last night, we got a glimpse of a built-in Raid Detector from Discord Automod.
Such a feature will be in high demand since people are visibly confused about their selection of anti-raid bots. Let's get a quick look at the screenshots and GitHub commits we have access to.
Screenshot Analysis (1)
On having a look at the GitHub commits, we understand that there will be automatic detection of a raid from the number of users joining the server at a given time. It takes preliminary actions before you get to review the situation and then waits for you to take further action on the matter.
As soon as your server became a topic in a VC group, people might check your server out of curiosity. In that case, there are generally lots of joins. In that case, it might also detect a raid, but you can report it as false. We will have the option of checking for false alarms and possibly redoing the automated actions.
We can't guess what "Not so strict" step automod will take to stop the raid, maybe pause invites? We don't know about that yet!
Screenshot Analysis (2)
Here we get a glimpse of the automod message that the moderators of the server receive when a possible raid is detected. In this particular case, the system detected 1000 joins and took action against them. What action did it take? Sadly, we don't know much about that at the moment.
We see a highlighted, false alarm and action menu at the bottom of the message. The message will be delivered to the channel chosen at the time of setting up the feature in the automod section under server settings.
Significance of auto-raid detection in the server
Discord Automod unlike other bots doesn't have downtime, and thus will prove to be a better and safer option for servers to stay protected from raids. But yes, it might take some time for the module to come to par with the present bots, presenting a highly efficient detecting system.
What is a raid?
A raid is where a large number of users will join a community with the express intention of causing issues for the community.
If you have a look at the chart featured above, the spike in joins was only through the Vanity URL and only a very few regular joins from Server Discovery and Invite links, clearly indicating automation.
This floods the member list and also might disrupt your chats with uncontrollable spam. Thanks to automod for the mention spam module that prevents the mention spams too. You are lucky to not know about this.
Well, for now, that's all we know about Automod Raid Detection, you will be updated as soon as there is more information on air. That's all for today, hope you enjoyed today's article. Make sure to join our official Discord server to discuss further on this topic or suggest new articles!
