Improve Your Design Workflow and Experience With These Figma Hacks!
If you're a beginner in Figma, it can be challenging and complicated to get started. Luckily, with these tricks, you'll take your first steps to become a Figma wizard!
As more and more communities on Discord start levelling up their server's design using icons and banners, many have resorted to the free professional design tool Figma.
If you're a beginner, it can be challenging and complicated to get started; Luckily, with these tricks, you'll take your first steps to become a Figma wizard! 🧙♂️
The scaling tool.
"Why does my stroke never resize with my object?!?!"
Don't worry.
That's completely normal, but if it comes to a point where you need to resize a stroke along with your object, pressing the letter K opens up a new panel on the right-hand side of your screen; you can input the width and height of what you want to be resized, you can use a multiplier with a centre of enlargement, or you could resize by dragging.
Constraint settings.
"Why does the design stick to one side of the frame and not the other?!"
We've all tried to change the size of a frame at least once, hoping that the content of the canvas would stay as it is and not move to the left or scale up and down.
All you've got to do is go to the right-hand side panel and scroll to the Constraints tab. Press the side on which you want the content to stick, allowing you to resize the frame without worry.
Auto 👏 Lay 👏 Out
"I wish there was an easy way to align my items without doing anything."
Have no fear Auto-layout is here! I am baffled by how everyone does not know about Auto-layout yet - it has to be the best tool that Figma offers. It's as simple as pressing Shift + A on your keyboard.
What does it do? It aligns all the objects you put in the frame by choosing your centre of alignment, separating your things, and much more. There is no way of fitting everything about auto-layout and its hacks into one article section, so I've curated a playlist of everything you need to know about auto-layout.
Turn strokes in to fill.
"How on earth will I turn this line into a shape?!"
I think most people doing graphic design art have at least once tried to turn their pen tool masterpiece into a shape so they can add effects or other things.
This describes the Expand tool in Adobe Illustrator - not to worry because a similar feature called Turn stroke into an outline exists.
This is done by using the keyboard command Ctrl + Shift + O aaaanddd... done! Learn more about adjusting stroke layers by reading the help article below.
+1 Bonus Hack:
You can animate your Figma files into GIFs using https://jitter.video - IT'S FREE (sort of)
